WALLPAPER CALCULATION FORMULA
To work out how much wallpaper you will need simply follow the steps below.
Step 1: Measure the width of your walls
To determine how much wallpaper you will need, begin by measuring the width of each wall in the room. Add the measurements together to find the total width. It’s advisable to use a high-quality, rigid measuring tape and round up to the nearest whole number.
Step 2: Measure the height of your walls
Next, measure the height of your walls, or the height you plan to cover (e.g., up to half wall height), starting from the skirting board. Multiply this height by the total width of the room to calculate the overall square meterage. If you're only wallpapering a feature wall, multiply the height by the width of that specific wall.
Step 3: Calculate the wallpaper roll coverage
Our wallpapers are 62 cm wide and are sold in linear metres (62cmWx1mH), covering around 0.62 square meters per linear metre. To estimate the quantity of linear metres required, divide the total square meterage of the area to be wallpapered, by the coverage of a linear metre. To avoid potential wastage, let us know the height of the wall to be covered (adding 10% extra to ensure you will have enough), and we will cut the wallpaper to the required height so that the tile repeats line up at the top and bottom of each roll.
A wall that measures 6 square meters would require approximately 10 linear metres of wallpaper because:
6÷0.62 = 9.67 (rounded up to 10)
or
square metres÷square metres per linear metre (always 0.62 for our wallpapers) = total linear metres of wallpaper required.
However, it is wise to order 10% extra, which would be 1 extra linear metre.
Step 4: No need to consider pattern repeats
When the repeat length does not match the width of the roll, this can lead to increased wastage. However, since our wallpaper widths are the size of a pattern repeat, you will not need additional rolls to ensure the pattern aligns properly.
It is generally recommended to add at least 10% to your total calculation to account for errors, re-cuts, or future repairs. It’s better to have more wallpaper than less to avoid shortages during installation.
